Abstract
Ranitidine is a selective histamine-II receptor blocker which is commonly used in the treatment of peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It acts by decreasing acid secretion in the stomach. However, selective histamine-II receptor blockers are used as combination with histamine-I receptor blockers in the treatment of chronic urticaria, anaphylactic shock and angioedema. Headache, weakness, vertigo, constipation, diarrhea, bradycardia, skin eruption, gynecomastia and anaphlaksi are the rarely seen side-effects of histamine-II receptor blockers.
