Incarceration by rope: A rare cause of uvula edema

Abstract
Objective: Uvula edema is a life threatening condition especially in children. Probable causes should be evaluated such as, trauma, allergic conditions and many infections. In this article ve reported a case that developed uvula edema after ingestion of a piece of rope and its incarcerating the uvula. Case report: 2 and a half years old girl addmited to our emergency clinique by his familly with the complaints of irritability, difficulty in svaloving, dysphagia and shortness of breath. In physicial examination edema of the uvula and a piece of rope bound around the distal part of the uvula were noticed. IV steroid treatment started emergently and the rope has been cut out under the mask anethesia. Patient releiving right after the procedure has been discharged from the hospital 12 hours later. Conclusion: Edema of the uvula may also ocur due to mechanichal causes and incarceration by rope should be considered among the differential diagnosis.
